WKABC Leadership Program - Trip Leader
Whitewater Canada/WKABC Trip Leader Course
Time: 8 hours
Class 1 - 2 hours
River 6 - 7 hours

Evaluation:
- paddling skill evaluation on up to Class II+ moving water
- Two 20 - minute group leading presentations
- One map analysis assignment
- Written exam - as method of ensuring material is covered

Content: Topics include: group dynamics, communication, group spacing, equipment, safety, dealing with fear, evaluating participant abilities, route evaluation, pre-trip check, organizing trips, and includes on-river practice leading groups.

Pre-requisites:
- Desire to lead groups on Grade II rivers and Class II rapids.
- Demonstrate Moving Water Roll
- Class II+ paddling skills
- WKABC Member

Certification: Nationally recognized through Whitewater Canada, the governing body for kayaking. The certification is for 3 years, and is for people who wish to lead whitewater paddling trips on Grade II Rivers and Class II Rapids. This course is designed specifically for club leaders, teachers, and others who lead groups on introductory whitewater trips.
